1) Bari (half – day) [02/10]
Departure: h.15.30 (03:30 pm)
Language: English or Italian
Bari, regional capital of Apulia, stretches along the Adriatic coast and it is mainly situated on a flat country. It is a city full of history and art and with its alleys and courts in the ancient village inspired by an archaic and oriental influence, it preserves valuable evidence of an illustrious past. Land conquered by the Lombards, Byzantines, Saracens and Normans, is reborn with the theft of the sacred remains of St. Nicola of Myra, and with the construction of the Basilica dedicated to the saint, which makes it one of the most important centres of Christianity in the Middle Ages, the point of departure and arrival of the Crusaders and the bridge of communication with the East. The tour includes a walk through the old village to the discovery of the Basilica of St. Nicola, the Cathedral of S.t Maria and St. Sabino, the church of St. Maria del Buonconsiglio, through alleys and courts.

The Castello Svevo, the impressive and perfect squared bulk, lapped directly from the sea, is located in a strategic position to oversee and defend the town and the harbor. The tour includes a walk through the old town and a visit to the cathedral.

Known for being the birthplace of Domenico Modugno (and less known for having grown the great contemporary artist Pino Pascali), Polignano stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea, which looks out through three large terraces, known as “balconate”. They offer fascinating breath-taking glimpses on the Adriatic Sea and highlight the virtuosity and technical capacity of the civilization which over the centuries has built this small urban jewel. In small churches scattered through the alleys, you can admire the works of Stefano da Putignano. It is advisable to get lost in the tiny streets while tasting an ice cream.
